At today’s Apple event, Apple unveiled the new iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and the Apple Watch. This is one of the biggest events we’ve seen from Apple in recent years. One of the most exciting parts of the event is the announcement of the Apple Watch.
The Apple Watch finally brings Apple into the wearables market. It’s packed with features from notifications and maps; to health and fitness. Apple is calling the Apple Watch their most personal device yet. One of the more notable features is the ability to message others on a more intimate level. How this is done through haptic feedback from the watch that Apple is calling ‘Taptics’. With the Apple Watch, you will be able to send a message through taps, drawings, and your pulse rate, and the other user will receive it on their Watch. The Apple Watch is also incredibly accurate as a timepiece with Apple claiming accuracy within 50ms. Apple is also pushing the Apple Watch as a health and fitness device. The Apple Watch includes a heart rate monitor, fitness tracking apps, and the ability to sync this data with the fitness apps on your iPhone. The Apple Watch is also highly customizable with it’s different clock faces and wrist bands. The Apple Watch will release early next year, starting at $349 and require an iPhone 5 or newer.
Apple also unveiled the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus at it’s event today. Both of these models bring several improvements over previous iPhone models. The most noticeable feature is the larger displays and increased resolutions. The iPhone 6 now has a 4.7” display with a resolution of 1334x750, and the iPhone 6 Plus has a 5.5” display with a resolution of 1920x1080. Both models also are sporting the new A8 and M8 chips, both being faster and more advanced then then previous generations. The new camera in the iPhone 6 lineup is also improved thanks in part to the A8’s built in image signal processor. The camera now has the ability to film full HD video at 60 fps, and slow mo videos up to 240 FPS; as well as focus twice as fast, and include optical image stabilization that makes use of the technologies in the A8 and M8 chips. The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be available for preorder on September 12th, starting at $199 on contract, and will ship on September 19th.
An Apple event wouldn’t be complete without a surprise though. Apple also announced Apple Pay. Apple Pay allows you to easily make purchases in retail stores and online. To use Apple Pay all you have to do is add a credit card to the Apple Pay app, and then simply touch your iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, or Apple Watch to a pay station in a store, or tap pay with Apple Pay in an app. Apple Pay is launching next month and will be available as a free download on iOS 8.
To tie it all up, Apple also announced that iOS 8 will be available to download on your supported iDevices on September 17th.
