Today, Microsoft has announced their new Surface Pro 3 tablet. Microsoft says it has the ability to replace your laptop. In fact Microsoft says, “Surface Pro 3 is a tablet and a laptop.” The new Surface Pro 3 includes a full HD 12” display, numerous processor options from the 4th-generation Intel© Core™ lineup, and up to 8GB of RAM. Microsoft also claims that it’s thinner then the 11-inch MacBook Air and is lighter then it’s predecessor. The new Surface Pen has 256 points of pressure sensitivity to allow what Microsoft says to be, “a more natural writing experience.”
On the software side of things, the Surface Pro 3 runs Windows 8.1 Pro. This is the x86/x86_64 version, so that means you can run all the applications you are used to running on your desktop or laptop.
Microsoft has also introduced a new Surface Pro Type Cover and Docking Station. Microsoft claims that the Surface Pro Type Cover is, “One of the thinnest mechanical keyboards available.” The new Surface Pro 3 Docking Station includes a gigabit Ethernet port, MiniDisplay port, and 5 USB ports. It also charges the Surface Pro 3 when it is docked.
